BLOG TOUR: Second Chance Boyfriend by Monica Murphy

Lost.

That one single word best describes my life at this very moment. I lost the last games of the season and both my team and my coach blame me. I lost the last two months because I drowned in my own despair like a complete loser. And I lost the only girl who ever mattered because I was afraid being with me would destroy her.

But now I realize how truly lost I am without her. She has become my story…and even though she acts like she’s moved on, I know she still thinks about me just as much as I think about her. She’s beautiful, sweet—and so damn vulnerable, all I want to do is help her. Be there for her. Love her…

If only I could convince Fable to give me a second chance. Then I wouldn’t feel so lost anymore, and neither would she. We could be found together.

Forever.
Music that Inspired Second Chance Boyfriend
Thanks so much for having me as a guest on your blog today, Becca!
I really didn’t listen to any music while writing One Week Girlfriend, but I listened to plenty of songs while writing Second Chance Boyfriend. I even created a playlist on Spotify (you can see it here on my blogand follow it if you’d like!).
Warning – if you haven’t read the book yet, you might not want to read this post. I’m trying not to be spoilery but I might drop a few hints. Sorry!
I’ll share with you a few of the songs from my playlist. First, a brief mention for Kelly Clarkson’s Dark Side, though really that’s more fitting for One Week Girlfriend, right?
Then there’s Jesus Christ by Brand New—Drew is so full of despair in the beginning of the book and this song is about death and loneliness. Wow, I’m so upbeat, aren’t I? But I really do love this song. Here’s a bit that reminds me of Drew:
Do you believe you’re missin’ out
That everything good is happening somewhere else?
But with nobody in your bed
The night’s hard to get through
This line too. It kills me—it’s so Drew:
Do I divide and fall apart?
Cause my bright is too slight to hold back all my dark
Ack, I just love it when I can connect a song to characters and a story.
When Drew and Fable finally see each other again and Fable gets so angry with him, the song Doll Parts by Hole is perfect. Because that’s just how Fable feels. Here are some lyrics:

I want to be the girl with the most cake
I love him so much it just turns to hate
I fake it so real, I am beyond fake
And someday, you will ache like I ache

*Poor Fable*
Another great song for Fable is Love My Way by the Psychedelic Furs. Only for these lines though, since they sum up what she needs to do to get through it all:
Swallow all your tears my love
And put on your new face
You can never win or lose
If you don’t run the race
Love, Love, Love by As Tall As Lions is a great song. It’s both sad and hopeful, which I think is the embodiment of Drew + Fable. Here are some lyrics:
Have I
Ever told you before
I think you’re beautiful when
You’re sleeping
I have faith you watch me in
My slumber, too
If I’m
All that you’re looking for
Tell me
Why is there a river streaming
Down your face?
Sometimes makes me wonder
All about your
Love.
Then there’s Wanted by Hunter Hayes. Oh my, that song to me is perfect for Drew + Fable and really fits during the time in the book where they’re connecting and learning about each other. It’s all Drew wants to do—make Fable feel wanted by him. Just the first lines of the song make me think, Yep, that’s Drew:
You know I’d fall apart without you
I don’t know how you do what you do
‘Cause everything that don’t make sense about me
Makes sense when I’m with you
*swoony swoon*
And finally, here’s another favorite song—Destiny by Zero 7. It’s the chorus that does it for me. It’s what both Drew + Fable feel for each other. Just…perfect:
When I’m weak I draw strength from you
And when you’re lost I know how to change your mood
And when I’m down you breathe life over me
Even though we’re miles apart we are each other’s destiny

I hope you check out some of these songs and my playlist if you’re interested! And let me know if there are any songs that you know and love that make youthink of Drew + Fable.

I was lucky enough to have been on the tour for One Week Girlfriend and was blown away by Drew and Fable’s Story. I told everyone I knew as soon as I read the last line of the book and told them they needed to run and buy this book. So when I was asked to join the tour for Second Chance Boyfriend I said YES YES YES!!! I loved the flawness of Drew and Fable, yet despite their flaws, they found each other. So I could wait to see where their love story was going to go, even though things didn’t look all that great at the end of OWG.

The book starts off with change. Where is Drew? Why are they still apart? There are big changes going on in both of their lives, but is it for the good? They live in a small college town and eventually they are going to run into each other right? This book continues Drew and Fables unconventional love story as they both struggle with their own demons while trying to be supportive of each other and their daily struggles. Will Drew ever be able to let go of his family and their torment? With Fable be able to be herself, instead of being everything to everyone else? I loved this book because you got to really know Drew and Fable and what drives them. It’s full of love, hate, joy, sorrow, laughter and fears. It will take you on an emotional ride in a good way.
