Top Reads of 2016: Number 10-6(ish)

Even with everything that was going on this year, coming up with my Top 10 was hard to do…Many of you know I spent months in the hospital and while there I did some reading but wasn’t too concerned with logging it all into Goodreads, where I try to keep track of what I read throughout the year. So when I started to see other people’s top reads for the year and then going back to look at my READ list on GR, I found that there were several I did read and just never marked off. Let me tell you I had some GREAT reviews on some (Vicodin highs can bring fun results when trying to write. So today, you get my Top 10(ish) reads of 2016. Because even when going through the screwy reviews on some (which I have gone back to fix LOL) I ended up with a few extras in my Top 10. So here is numbers 10-6(ish) and come back tomorrow for the Top 5 (ish). Happy New Year!

Dare Me

Rebecca Shea

Five cowo10rkers.

Four drinks.

Three glances.

Two fleeting smiles.

One dare.

A dare that will change my life.

That’s all it takes to send me plummeting into the arms of the mysterious Holt Hamilton. Behind his crystal blue eyes is a secret, one that screams danger but calls to me anyway.

My name is Saige Phillips.

I never walk away from a dare.

This was such a fantastic read. The blurb will kind of throw you off, making you think this is a dark read when really it is a book full of vulnerability, intensiveness, sweetness, determination, sacrifice, along with panty melting steam- a roller coaster of emotions and characters that will win you over in a heartbeat.

I love Rebecca hard and the hash tag #HoltisaHottie doesn’t even begin to describe the deliciousness of this book.

 Breaking a Legend

Sarah Robinson

As one of the big names at his family’s gym, Legends, MMA star Rory Kavanagh is used to being in the spotlight—until a gruesome leg injury knocks him out of the cage. Rory is left feeling sidelined in more ways than one, battling the inner demons that come with losing the one shot at his dreams. Then Clare walks into his life and gives him a new dream: winning her heart. There aren’t many new faces in Woodlawn these days, but this tough, beautiful stranger makes Rory want to get his life back into fighting shape.

Clare Ivers doesn’t think she’ll be able to tell anyone what really brought her to the close-knit Bronx neighborhood where she just started bartending. But her life’s on pause and her past is catching up fast, try as she might to move on—with new friends, steady work, and a chiseled alpha male trying to get her attention. Even though Rory’s more than a little intense, she can’t deny that her heart beats faster when he looks at her with those soulful silver eyes. Clare thought she was done with love, but Rory might just be man enough to show her she thought wrong.

I love this entire series but Breaking a Legend, was intense and raw and full of emotions both high and low. I truly feel in love with the Kavanagh brothers. Every family has their own cross to bare and Rory is trying to do right by his family. But he’s had a tough road but finding Clare… he starts to see clearer. There is meaning in his life.

Clare is one tough cookie who tells it like it is but she has her own demons to fight too.

The Effects of Falling

Mariah Dietz

8I have loved my best friend for eleven years.

Eleven years of celebrations.

Eleven years of victories and losses.

Eleven years of inside jokes and shared smiles.

Eleven years of helping him raise his daughter as a single father.

He smiles at me and my world brightens.

He ignores me and I forget how to function.

He holds my hand and takes more of my heart.

He leaves and time stops.

We have both lost too much, but am I willing to risk the effects of falling again?

My Top 25 Books of 2013 (So Far) Part 2

Mariah is one of those authors that I think everyone needs to read. Every story from her I get swept away with and although this is book 2, you could read it as a standalone but then you would be missing out on one of my other top reads – The Weight of Rain.

Summer and Kash have been best friends and business associates for years. But when Summer decides that she just can’t wait around anymore for Kash to open his eyes to what their relationship could be – heartache follows for both.

With Mariah’s books, I feel as if I am living the story instead of just reading about someone else’s life. You feel every emotion, every pull and I just get lost in her writing. If you haven’t read a book by Mariah, you need to add her to your TBR right now.

Say You’ll Stay / Say You Want Me

Corinne Michaels

Ok so this is one of those that I just couldn’t make up my mind on which one should make it into the Top 10 for me… so there are sharing the spot at number 7.

Small town busy-bodies (check) Second Chance Romance (check) Hot cowboys (double check)

Corinne is another author that I adore and just get lost in her books. She will give your emotions a ride they will no sooner forget – leaving you in some heavy book hangovers. Meet the Hennington Brothers. Both books can be read as standalones. You’re welcome.  See the trailer for Say You’ll Stay here.

Say You’ll Stay

One word.

It was all he had to do. Instead, he got on that bus and took my heart with him.

That was seventeen years ago.

I moved on. Marriage. Kids. White picket fence. Everything I ever wanted, but my husband betrayed me and I was left once again.

Alone, penniless, and with two boys, I had no choice but to return to Tennessee. He wasn’t supposed to be there. I should’ve been safe. However, fate has a way of stepping in.

This time around, the tables are turned. It’s my decision. Second chances do exist, but I don’t know if we can repair what’s already been broken . . .

Say You Want Me

There’s no way I’ll fall for Wyatt Hennington.

He can keep his Southern drawl, irresistible smile, and those pick-up lines all to himself. I made the mistake of sleeping with him not once, but twice. I’m not stupid enough to give him round three, especially after he left me in the middle of the night so I could see myself out. I vow to return to Philadelphia and forget him.

It proves easier said than done.

When the doctor informs me I’m the winner of door prize number two, I put my life on hold and head back to Bell Buckle. Three months and if we can’t make this work, I’m gone.

The problem is—when the cards are stacked against us, and I can’t bring myself to leave him, I’ll finally know if he truly loves me or if all my fears were real . . .

T.L. Swan

6He outbid me, that was our initial interaction.

He was cocky, my first impression.

Then he stole my heart, I don’t even think he noticed.

Alastar O’Shea was full of sexual energy, the things he would say, the addictive things he would do.

He knew how to make me come undone.

He knew how to love me.

He was the best experience of my sheltered life.

But do you ever really know who someone is?

What if the story I know isn’t the story at all?

I thought I knew him
I was wrong.

TL Swan was another new author for me this year. I first was introduced to her through her Stanton Series. So when she contacted me and said she had a new book, completely different from anything that she’s ever written before and she wanted my opinion on it – I said YES!! And boy, this book… it blew me away.  I really don’t know what category to put this into, but just know that is a book that encompasses romance, mystery, suspense, humor and jaw dropping moments. I cried and laughed with this book, I emailed her constantly while reading the bits she would send to me what more, NOW.

I can’t really tell you much about the book, because you really need to experience this book and all its little twists and turns.

TL is a masterful storyteller that will have you flipping the pages!

Go read this book!!
