Are you ready to see who is on the Top 5 for my reads of 2016?
That One Moment
Life is a series of reoccurring ripples in time.
The moment I saw her…something shifted.
The moment my lips touched hers…life got messy.
The moment my heart got involved…everything changed.
Vi Harris tests every bit of my strength.
She is my test.
At a time when I should be focusing entirely on myself, this radiant woman with a bright, cheeky smile and a cracked sense of humor waltzes in and spins everything on its axis.
Vi has the potential to make me weak at a time when I’m determined to show everyone just how bloody strong I am.
She’s everything I am not…yet somehow, she sees through my darkness.
She doesn’t see me as broken.
She sees me as the man I’m fighting so hard to be.
The man that I’m still struggling to see myself.
But resisting her is proving to be even more difficult than my past…
*A London Lovers Series Full Length Standalone*
I have been waiting for Hayden’s story and I knew that this one was going to be a tough one to get through and it was… but so worth the journey!! I dare to say that I loved it even more than Not the One (gasp!!) with was on my top reads for 2015.
Hayden is still trying to survive. Survive the guilt. Survive the pain. Survive life.
It’s been a year – and its time to tell his story in the most painful of ways.
His therapist advises telling his story, to a complete stranger. To countdown to that one moment, when all was lost in his eyes.
Vi has felt a connection with Hayden since the first night she met him. The only problem is he seems to want nothing to do with her at all. So when she tells Hayden that she’s willing to listen, to be the person she can countdown to that moment with… Hayden takes a chance. But as the experiment goes along, he realizes that his heart is starting to open up and feel again – and he just doesn’t know if he can survive again, if all doesn’t go well.
This book was emotionally draining to me. I was so invested with Hayden from Not the One and my heart just broke with every word he seemed to speak. Vi was amazing… she takes on a lot for a guy that she knows could be the one that she’s been waiting for, but Hayden holds back, making you cry out for Vi.
Emotions run high in That One Moment. And I loved every minute of it.

Watching the Sky Cry
Ten years is a long time when you’re thirty-two. We’d seen our share of ups and downs, but I could honestly say they were mostly up.
That’s the thing about happiness though. It lulls you into a false sense of security. I’m sure neither one of us thought we’d ever be touched by crippling loss or immeasurable grief. But not all stories have a happy ending and I knew better than anyone that sometimes, one of you won’t make it till the end. One of you has to go first. And one of you…
Will be left behind to pick up the pieces.
And that’s me.
But starting over isn’t at all what I thought it would be. I needed escape from the memories that plagued me, reminded me. So I went back to where it all began. To the town where I was born. To the place whose beauty could pierce my pain. Where I experienced my first kiss, where I fell in love, where a man was my earth. And I…
Was his sky.
I get a certain thrill every time I get one of Julie’s books. I know that I’m going to go on a journey, that more than likely I will be crying at some point and by the end I’ll be soaring after having been racked with emotions, hope and healing.
It took me a few days to wrap my mind around what I wanted to say but just know that I think Julie is one of hidden treasures in this industry and more people should be reading these amazing stories she writes.
Riley is a mess. Growing up her best friend Quentin is her whole world. Friends since a young age, her summers were spent hanging out with Quentin in Northern California while the rest of the year, letters were her gateway to staying in touch with the one boy that she knew one day would become her life… until the summer she came back to find he had a girlfriend and crushed her entire world.
Now over 12 years later she finds herself back in Northern California trying to pick up the pieces to her shattered life once more. What she never expected was to find Quentin there to help her piece back her life.
This is a tragic, raw yet poetic, refreshing and unstoppable love story about self discovery, forgiveness, second chances and love. Its hard to put into words what this book was. I couldn’t put it down. I laughed and cried and ached at times. This book is definitely in my top reads for the year if not my top read. Just so very very good.
Rachel Van Dyken
I have lost everything.
Death knocks on my door, I want to answer, but every time I reach for the handle–the promise I made her, brings me back.
So I breathe.
And I allow the anger to boil beneath the surface of a perfectly indifferent facade.
I am broken, I don’t want to be fixed.
One last trip to New York, one last chance to redeem a lost part of the mafia family. The Empire is crumbling and it’s my job to fix it, my job to mend the pieces that were scattered over thirty years ago.
The only issue is, the only way to fix, is to do something I swore I’d never do again.
An arranged marriage.
Only this time.
I won’t fall.
Or so help me God, I’ll kill her myself.
My name is Sergio Abandanoto, you think you know my pain, my suffering, my anger, my hate–you have no idea.
I am the mafia.
I am the darkness.
Blood in. No out.
This series just gets better and better with each book and although each of the books in the series can be read as a standalone, Empire really should be read after reading Elude.
This is the continuation of Sergio, the family ghost and I would one of the most broken out of the mafia men (and runs really close to Phoenix). Although this book is so full of emotion it has the RVD flare of fun to help even out the complete breakage of your heart. Truths and secrets come to light for the entire Elite group and Sergio needs to become a “saviour” for the group if they plan to continue in their way.
This series is a must read and Sergio… Well, you need to meet him stat.
HEATH STRICKLAND, the son of a prominent district attorney, lived his life surrounded by violence and crime. He was an unwilling witness to the corrupt lives his father swore to prosecute and keep behind bars. His escape was his music, which eventually led him to replace the iconic singer of the world famous band, Epic Fail.
NOELLE DURAND lived in luxury, growing up on a sprawling estate, with everything she could ever want or need. Her life, to everyone else, seemed perfect. Perfect house. Perfect things. Perfect family. But nothing at all was perfect. She lived in hell. A hell that nobody on the outside could see.
As a neighbor and childhood friend, Heath would have done anything for Noelle. He would have given up the world to protect her and keep her safe. Their friendship grew into something that neither of them expected. But then she suddenly disappeared, vanishing from his life as if she never existed. He never stopped hoping that one day she would resurface, alive and well. But as time went by, and her family gave up hope, he surrendered his heart to his lost love.
Twelve years later, one phone call changes everything.
EPIC LOVE is the third book in the EPIC FAIL series and can be read as a STANDALONE novel.
Heath and Noelle have been best friend since they were 10 years old. Heath had always known something was off for Noelle but when she disappears at the age of 18 – Heath is left heartbroken and confused about what happened to his best friend and love of his life.
Now 12 years later Heath still can not let go of Noelle. His life revolves around her memory and serves as his muse when writing as the lead singer of Epic Fail. But then one phone call rocks his world… Sending everything he thought was true – down the drain.
I devoured this book and thinks it’s Trudy’s best book to date! Heath and Noelle will give you all the feels you love in a romance book.
See the trailer here.
So I had a tie for my #1 read of the year. Both of these books were highly emotional, but in different ways. Stayed with me for months after reading, even with them being such complete opposites. Both by women I adore and would read anything they wrote, including the phone book because dammit they would make you feel for that phone book! So I give you my #1’s for the year 2016…
It Ends with Us
Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most.
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.
I’m going to tell you straight up… I ugly cried throughout this book. This book is powerful, gut-wrenching… you’ll run the gambit of emotions from laughter, fear, confusion, relief, sadness, happiness, love and hate – completely ruined and then healed. You will be an emotional wreck and love every minute of it.
If you haven’t already heard all the buzz about this book, then don’t go looking for it. It’s best to dive into the book, knowing nothing and expecting everything. All I can say is WOW!
I am a blank canvas that even the artist in me doesn’t know how to fill. My life started the day I escaped and woke up in the hospital.
Escaped from reality. Escaped from fear. Escaped from him.
Nothing exists before that, and as the days trickle by, I’m positive there’s nothing after that either.
I try though. For Poppa, who hasn’t left my side since I woke up, I try to live.
But every attempt is futile. So I escape again and start fresh on a small island, where there aren’t any expectations to fulfill. Where family and friends I don’t remember can’t look at me with sadness and disappointment.
And when Travis Keillar comes into my life everything changes. The memories I’ve lost become unimportant to the memories I’m creating with him. For the first time since I opened my eyes that fateful day in the hospital, life smiles back at me.
Until it doesn’t.
Until he comes back for me.
For revenge of crimes I don’t remember committing.
This book…My heart was beating a million beats a minute. It was so different for anything that Yessi has ever written before. An on the edge of your seat…thriller and those that know Yessi, may question her sanity LOL.
This book takes you into the mind of a girl who doesn’t know who she is. She’s been missing for months and has no clue where she’s been or who she is. There is so much I could tell you about the book but just don’t want to because you need to experience this book in a pure way. This is one of those books that it’s best going in knowing nothing except you will be taken on a ride in an EPIC way. The suspense and the romance (in a totally unusual way ) make this book a stand out.
WOW – What a year and looking forward to 2017 – I’m already so excited for all the new books to hit my eReader’s shelf!
